About the 2024 Mission
The Africa Energy Sector Inward Buying and Investment Mission 2024, held under the banner of the Continental Energy and Infrastructure Investment Forum (CEIIF), marked a landmark initiative aimed at catalysing investment into Africa’s energy future. Hosted in Johannesburg and Cape Town from 15–19 July 2024, this high-impact program brought together 40 African delegates from 12 countries, representing government ministries, private enterprises, and development finance institutions. The mission was facilitated by the South African Electrotechnical Export Council (SAEEC), with strategic support from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC), and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
Objectives and Outcomes
• Project Pipeline Development: Over 20 infrastructure and energy projects were reviewed, representing a combined investment potential of US$2.3 billion, laying the foundation for enhanced cross-border collaboration and financing.
• Continental Collaboration: Discussions emphasized aligning with Agenda 2063 and SDG 7 goals by accelerating industrialisation and building sustainable, climate-resilient energy systems across Africa.
• Promotion of South African Expertise: Delegates were exposed to South Africa's capabilities in power generation, transmission, renewables, smart metering, and digital infrastructure.

The African Energy Colloquium, held in Cape Town on 18 July 2024, formed the apex of the mission week.

A high-level discussion on balancing energy security, net zero commitments, and affordable clean energy access:
